演講簡介 | The speaker will show how marginal communities can sometimes assert their values against those of the state and other authorities, by claiming a superior knowledge of tradition in relation to that of official cultural experts. Using case studies based on extensive fieldwork in one urban enclave in Bangkok, Thailand and a rural mountain village in Greece, the speaker will also raise the relevance of this concept of “subversive archaism” as a comparative tool. He will also briefly discuss its potential relevance to the context of Taiwan’s external relations and internal cultural diversity. |
