我是一位醫療人類學家，主要的研究興趣是中醫界面臨的後殖民挑戰。我的寫作探討中醫醫生如何結合西醫知識以應對近幾十年來的社會和政治變遷。我的田野調查經驗較豐富，其中包括在北京中醫藥大學完成了五年制的學士學位。我同時從事 20 世紀初的中醫史研究，並與漢方醫學和韓醫學者合作過，發表了幾篇相關的論文。
我的新研究建立在我對傳統醫學的興趣上，擴展到童年、身體和環境人類學的領域。我目前的課題調查台灣家庭如何求助於中醫來治療新的兒科疾病，這些疾病似乎與現代社會的危險和不確定性有關，比如飲食變化、社會壓力和環境風險。
我的研究也受了我其他工作的影響，比如我多年的教學經驗。我是文化人類學教科書《歡迎光臨人類學》第五版的合著者。另外，我也從事 20 多年中醫臨床工作。我與眾多患者的臨床經驗對我的寫作和教學有深遠的影響。
