Colonialism and gender in iron age Iberia, an archaeological approach to changing role of women

Dr. Ignasi Grau Mira (Universitat D’Alacant, Spain)

演講摘要

During the Iron Age (8th–1st centuries BC), significant changes took place in the societies of the ancient Mediterranean. Profound transformations are observed in the intensification and specialization of economic activities, in a context of opening local economies to interregional trade. In ancient Iberia, this economic development was intertwined with the transformation of sociopolitical structures. In this framework, we study women’s participation in economic practices, especially in textile activity. These changes shaped the social and political importance of women, as reflected in Iberian Iron Age images and symbols.
