演講簡介Developing archaeological education and public outreach programs with Indigenous communities and for Indigenous communities involves collaboration. To achieve a successful outcome, the effort must be a co-creative process that takes varying perspectives and ways-of-knowing into account. As archaeologists, we are schooled in the scientific method. We work with material culture to try to understand past ways-of-life. Developing successful public outreach programming with and for Indigenous communities, involves a more complex skill set. Archaeological educators must go beyond and draw from the disciplines of cultural anthropology, archaeology, and education. We must understand cultural sensitives, differences in communication-styles, and learning-styles. Co-creation—working together with community members from conception to creation—will lead to more successful utilization of the outreach products. This presentation will provide basic information on program development including: background on the inclusion of multiple ways of knowing, the development of programing based on the situation, and will touch on learning-styles and the different types of cultural communication.
